Happy August (yeah, it's August already). As many of us wind down our summer and we start to get distracted by football – both kinds – there is still plenty going on in the world of AI and design. It sounds like MAICON was a huge success (more below), and it was well timed with the release of the Gartner AI Hype Cycle. The Hype Cycle shows that generative AI is currently almost at the top of the Peak of Inflated Expectations. This means we're probably minutes away from the backlash as it descends down toward the Trough of Disillusionment. The reality is that generative AI will continue to be a disruptive force across many creative industries. I dig into the Hype Cycle a bit more in my most recent blog post.
The thing to remember about business leaders is they are driven by metrics. In a way, we're all driven by metrics (how much money did you make last month, what are your bills this month?). But in business, leaders are responsible for looking at those same questions on a much larger scale. Many do not have the luxury of incorporating qualitative factors. If you're a designer, it's harder to present quantitative data to show your value. Harder, but not impossible. In this blog post, I outline some stats that you can pre-emptively show to your leadership to show how the work you provide adds value to the business. At some point, they'll have to cut costs. They won't come to you when they're planning these cuts. Showing your quantitative value ahead of time could be the difference between a layoff and a promotion. Get ahead of this now.
Who Will be the First to Create God?Yikes. That's a headline. Data scientist extrordinaire, Christopher Penn, delivered an opening morning keynote for this year's MAICON (marketing AI conference).
If You Haven’t Lost at Least 3 Nights of Sleep Thinking about AI, Then You Don’t Fully Understand AI.Another "yikes" headline! This one is from a recap Paul Roetzer (founder of the Marketing AI Institute) wrote about a recent article
OpenAI Quietly Shuts Down Its AI Detection ToolOpenAI has decided to pull the plug on its AI detection tool, AI Classifier, due to its low accuracy rate.
Keep reading for more details on this development. Also, I'm now offering a 15-minute one-on-one to help you set up your generative AI systems. If you don't know where to get started, let's chat! Next week I'm on vacation, so I don't know if there will be a new issue. But if there is, I'll be sure it's not as scary as this one. HOW CAN I HELP YOU?
